Classes are structured on a five-week cycle (one class per week for five weeks). During each cycle, a student will receive, analyze, prepare, rehearse, tape and be critiqued on an appropriate scene.

Week #1: Scene Analysis and Cold Reading

1.   Students are partnered. Their chosen scenes for the cycle are handed out. Each scene is then cold-read twice and analyzed as to fundamental plot-conflict and character.
NOTE: Students are invited (encouraged) to choose their own scenes and scene partners for any class, provided (1) The studio is notified a week in advance (i.e., prior to the start of a new cycle and his partner/scene selection efforts), and (2) the scene is no longer than 5 minutes.

2.   A second scene (or two) may be handed out to everyone in class. This scene will be analyzed by the entire class. (It may or may not be performed.) Audition "choices" will be emphasized.

Week #2: Rehearsal

Scenes must be memorized by this week's class. Each scene is rehearsed twice, with direction from Mr. Osmond. Exercises, techniques, blocking, props, etc. will be applied by the teacher and practiced to enhance performance work.

Week #3: Performance and Taping

Each scene is videotaped twice: once, the way the scene partners have prepared it; and a second time after being given directorial adjustments and suggestions.

Week #4: Critique and More Scene Analysis

1.   Taped scenes are played back and critiqued by the individual actor him/herself and Mr. Osmond. Fundamental acting precepts are discussed to benefit the student and the entire class.

2.   An additional scene or two may be handed out to the class for group analysis. The purpose: to continue to strengthen the actors' ability to understand scenes and make good choices in cold-reading/audition situations. (This scene may or may not be performed in class.)

Week #5: Industry Guest Lecturer

A different agent, casting director, or director will be invited each cycle to conduct a class seperate from the scene study work of the previous four weeks. The intent is to have students meet industry people and learn from them cold reading, performance and audition techniques.

  • $270 when fully paid at least one week in advance of class cycle.
  • $295 when paid late (must be paid NLT first day of cycle).

Cancellations/Refunds

Continuing Students
Any continuing student who has committed to class and paid in advance and then chooses to drop out of the cycle -- and notifies the studio at least three days before the first class of the cycle will be refunded their full tuition minus a $20 service charge. If the notification occurs within the last three days before the first class, tuition will be returned minus a $35 service charge.

If a student drops out after the first class of the new cycle, there will be no refund. That student has the option, however, during the next cycle he/she does attend, to complete that scene in addition to the regular scene for that next cycle.

New Students
New students are required to sign up for two cycles. Admission to Cliffs advanced class will be by audition only.

Before the start of the first class, new students will be required to send in a non-refundable deposit of $50 at least 3 days before the first class. The balance will be due on the first night of class, plus a ONE-TIME start-up administrative fee of $10.

If a new student has paid the deposit, then fails to attend the cycle -- and notifies the studio at least thre days before the start of the first class of that cycle, $25 of their deposit may be applied to a subsequent class cycle, provided that student chooses to attend a cycle within three months. There will be no cash refunds for dropouts after that date.

Make-up Classes

If a student finds circumstances dictate their having to miss a class, they should: (1) Arrange with their scene partner to attend a make-up class on another evening during that cycle (preferably during the same week), and (2) Notify the studio of the desired arrangement. However, the partner of the absent student should attend class and work on a monologue of their choosing (which all actors should be working on anyway). Thus, by attending the regularly scheduled class as well as the make-up class (with their absented partner) the inconvenienced parnter will receive the opportunity to attend five classes that cycle. (Somewhat making up for their inconvience.)

NOTE WELL: If the missed class occurs during the third week of the cycle (the "shooting" week) it must be made-up during that week and that week only. Otherwise, the missed class must be made up during "shooting" week of the next cycle that both scene partners attend.
